When the subject of this logo design came up there were many different thoughts and design aspects to be considered. The following are the a few of the design considerations used by Carlos A. Tumpkin II.
First and foremost, the design had to be simple.
Secondly, the overall shape or form is important because it was to be recognizable to many people.
Thirdly, traditional colors of the International African Flag were chosen Red for the blood shed by our people for hundreds of years. Black for the color of our skin metaphorically. Green for the richness of Mother Africa.
Finally, the logo needed historical reference to our past and future: Our African Canadian roots are shown in the form of the golden star on top, which symbolizes the North Star. The red maple leaf on a white field ties in the reference to Canada
