DAMAULI, OCTOBER 12

Rajiv Gurung aka Dipak Manange was elected member of the Provincial Assembly from Manang-B.

Gurung was elected unanimously after an independent candidate Dorje Lama withdrew his candidacy, according to the Office of Chief Returning officer Manang.

Gurung, who is also Gandaki Province minister of Youth and Sports, was elected unopposed after Dorje withdrew his candidacy, said Chief Returning Officer Uttam Silwal.

Both Nepali Congress and CPN-UML had not fielded their candidates from Manang-B.

In the last polls too, Manange had thrown his hat in the ring as an independent candidate. Then, Dipak Manange had defeated Karma Gurung of Nepali Congress with UML's support. He was appointed Gandaki Province Minister of Youth and Sports by both UML and NC-led governments.

NC Manang President Shankar Gurung said his party had thrown its weight behind Manange. "UML has also thrown its weight behind Manange," said UML Manang Chair Kapil Gurung.
